Global investments in renewables also top non-renewables for 2nd year

On the 15 June, wind energy supporters gather at events in all corners of the globe to raise awareness for the benefits of wind energy. The Global Wind Day takes place for the second time this year, and for the fourth time in Europe.

The low-carbon investment needed to stop rising greenhouse gas emissions is impossible to achieve without massive applications of private sector capital. The private sector is looking urgently for investment signals out of the next United Nations Ministerial climate negotiations in Cancún at the end of the year.

Dr Klaus Rave was unanimously elected new GWEC Chairman at yesterday's Board meeting in Dallas for a two year term. Dr Rave follows Arthouros Zervos, who had been Chairman since the association was established in 2006.

In 2010 the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) are organising wind events around the world for both the public and the media to come and find out more about wind energy. Already some 38 organisations have signed up to take part, with others sure to join them.
